Degrees are great to have, but they aren’t the be-all and end-all of getting a great career. I never personally opted to go for a degree, and I’ve been very happy with what I’m doing so far! The key to obtaining your ideal career without a degree is knowing what routes to take.

You’ve got to sneak in around the back, and having the right knowledge is crucial to help you do this. In the case of law professions, many people think a degree is necessary. This isn’t the case, as you can see below.

Apprenticeships

One way to get your foot in the door is to undertake an apprenticeship course. This requires you to work for an employer; often doing things that aren’t even related to law! Eventually, though, you’ll be given more responsibility. That doesn’t mean you’ll end up with a full-time job at the company, but you’ll gain invaluable experience. Companies that hire law professionals are always looking for experience, so this is a great way of getting it.

GDL Conversion Course

In many areas of law, you simply have to have relevant qualifications. That isn’t the case for all of them, but I don’t know exactly what areas you’re targeting! If you’re interested in something that needs it, think about undertaking a GDL conversion course. This will provide you with the relevant knowledge that you must know before getting into these roles. It is a condensed course that teaches you important knowledge.

Become A Paralegal

Contrary to what some people may think, becoming a paralegal doesn’t require any degrees or qualifications. If a company is willing to hire you as a paralegal, that’s at their discretion! You still need to try and gain experience beforehand if you want to get a job in this. The great thing about becoming a paralegal is that it’s heavily involved in law, and it can pay particularly well! Get in on the ground floor, and you could be on the way to a lucrative career. Start Learning In Your Own Time

Just because you don’t intend to get a degree, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be learning. If you have decided that law is for you, that’s great! Now, start showing that you mean it by researching all the relevant information. If you get to a point where you’re given a job interview, you’ve got to demonstrate your eagerness. By being able to reel off pieces of info that will impress them, your chances of landing the job will improve.

Be Aware Of Your Transferrable Skills

You’re facing stiff competition from other people who are probably much more qualified than you. You’ve got to present employers with a reason to choose you over them. If you’ve worked in other careers in the past, make sure they know about it! Tell them about all the transferrable skills that you’ve acquired that would make you a great fit. It might be something that convinces them to give you a try.
