Rewrite Your CV
Often, the primary thing that is stopping you from getting a call back from a lot of jobs is a rubbish CV. Your resume needs to sell yourself in under two pages – that’s not a lot of space! You’re going to want to try and cram as much as possible about yourself on there, but that’s not necessarily the best approach. Employers look for clean and polished CVs with good grammar, spelling and layout. Make sure what’s included is relevant for the role you’re applying to.
Other irrelevant material is just using up precious space and detracting from all of the relevant skills and experience that you do have. Most importantly, be sure to include your contact details, such as a telephone number or email. The worst possible outcome is that they like you, but that they can’t get hold of you. Don’t forget the little things like that.
Increase Your Online Profile
If you already have social media accounts, like Twitter, set up then that’s a great start. However, you need to make sure that these accounts are professional and reflect the good working image that you are trying to portray in your CV. Inappropriate vines, joke photos and foul language are not going to help any employer decide that you are the one for their company. Tidy up your Twitter, etc. and get your profiles looking professional. Once you’ve done that, you can then set up a LinkedIn account. LinkedIn in a social network purely for business and professional content. This is basically like an online CV, where companies and employers can browse to find the best candidates for their jobs. There are many things you can do to find a new job. However, one thing you may be missing when applying for these positions is the qualifications. These are certainly difficult to come by and require a lot of hard work to achieve. It may be worth considering re-entering education. Particularly if you keep losing out to candidates with better grades than yourself. Going to university and obtaining a degree is also an option. Candidates with degrees are almost always more successful in job applications than those without one. There is a great diversity in higher ed these days, so you can pick from almost anything to study in a wide range of locations across the country.
Ultimately, any of these three methods of self-promotion is going to get you a better shot at getting a new job. Be sure to have a well-written CV.
