Climb The Ladder Fast In The Oil Industry

You might be interested in working in the oil industry. You don’t want to be stuck at the bottom of the ladder, though, do you? Let’s face it; most people enter the oil industry for one reason and one reason only. They want to make money. If you can’t make a lot of money in the oil industry, what was the point in joining in the first place? A lot of people assume that working in oil; you have to start your way at the bottom and work your way up to the top. Not true and there are plenty of ways to skip a few rungs on that employment ladder.

Get A Great Qualification

Your first step is to make sure that you head to university to get a degree in oil and gas. Or, something like engineering. That way, you will be primed to become a qualified professional in this industry. We know what you’re thinking. You can get into the oil industry with a college diploma, can’t you? As a matter of fact, you can. But you’ll be starting at the bottom, and there’s no guarantee you can rise at all. Make sure you work hard during your time at university because employers are always looking for candidates with firsts. Unfortunately, if you achieved a second at university, your prospects are limited.

Get Your Post-Grad

You better sign up for a postgrad once you finish your studies at university. This will further separate you from the random shuffle of other candidates on the job market.grad-1410722_960_720

It will also ensure that you are more qualified than the majority of your competition. As such, you’ll be able to jump into a higher position on the job market. Consider applying for a Masters (MS) in Petroleum Studies or similar field. Do this and you’ll be in the office rather than on the rig.  

Make A Name For Yourself

You need to make sure that you are associating and meeting with the right people. As such, you shouldn’t consider your summer as time off. Instead, use this duration to gain some experience in the oil industry.partnership-526413_960_720

Volunteer or look out for apprenticeship positions in some of the top companies. If you can, you need to gain experience somewhere like BP.

International Travel

If you limit yourself to one particular place, you are immediately reducing your career prospects in the oil industry. Instead, you need to open yourself up to the possibility of working anywhere in the world.hands-1445472_960_720

As such, you should avoid buying property. Instead, rent on short leases, ready to move to greener pastures at any moment. The oil industry is completely global. Just being ready and willing you could gain you a great position in the field.

Earn A Good Rep

If you do this, you will be noticed and you will rise to the top in any industry, including oil.
