If you lack creativity, you might be able to develop it, user, but you should still think of this as being a basic thing that you need to get hold of first.
Understanding
As with any other field in the world, you do also need to have a good strong basic understanding of the practice of marketing itself. Of course, you will gain a lot of understanding about this as you move ahead in your career, and most of the learning will be done on the job, but in the meantime it’s a good idea to consider the possibility of gaining some extra knowledge before you start applying to jobs.
You can google online courses in marketing, attend a night school, or even take up a degree in it if you are serious for the long-term haul. This will give you knowledge that others might not have, and bump you up in the recruitment process of any company you might apply for.
People Skills
It helps to have a lot of interpersonal skills in marketing, and for a number of reasons. For a start, this is something that practically every employer looks for anyway, so it’s always a bonus to have. But in marketing in particular, the more you understand people, the better a marketer you are, as you have a better idea of how to actually influence them in ways that the company desires.
Having people skills will translate into having the ability to sell products to them effectively – and that is the whole name of the game in marketing. Therefore, developing these skills first will likely make a big difference to whether or not you land that dream marketing job the first place.
